Sun-Spider, a.k.a. Charlotte Webber, is a character who made her first appearance in the Marvel Universe in Spider-Verse #6 (2020). Created by Dayn Broder, the winner of Marvel’s Spidersona contest, Sun-Spider has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a condition that affects her joints and connective tissue. Like many with EDS, she has hypermobility and uses mobility aids such as crutches or a wheelchair when needed. Sun-Spider’s story in Edge of Spider-Verse #4 (2022), titled “Prom and Circumstance,” addresses the issue of disability representation by highlighting the challenges faced by disabled heroes and advocating for their inclusion in comics and media. This groundbreaking character challenges harmful norms and paves the way for more disabled heroes to be seen in the future.
