I’m not sure it would even be possible considering his age and all, but it’s fun to see a different Peter Parker/Spider-man play an alternate version of himself especially with the multi-verse coming into full effect very soon. Time to address a little confusion surrounding The Amazing Spider-Man movies – aka the two movies which star Andrew Garfield – and the MCU Spider-Man movies – aka all of the Spidey films which star Tom Holland. I’ve noticed online, there seems to be some misunderstanding between the two different Spidey’s, and I thought I would help clear things up.
For those not too familiar with all the different Spider-Man movies, over the past few decades there have been multiple iterations of Spider-Man on the big screen. This has included a series of Spidey movies with Andrew Garfield and a separate series with Tom Holland.
Andrew Garfield played the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in two movies: The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. These movies were released in 2012 and 2014 respectively.
From 2016, Tom Holland took over the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man beginning with the movie, Captain America: Civil War. He then appeared in multiple Spider-Man films including Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness (2022).
While Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland have both played Peter Parker/Spider-Man on the big screen, they have both played different interpretations of the same character. In the same way that different actors have played the Joker, Macbeth, or Poirot, Andrew and Tom have each taken on the part of Spider-Man, and made the role their own.
